Where It Started
Norkley grew out of a long fascination with natural sheepskin and the way it can change the feeling of a space. What started with working with the material itself gradually became an exploration of texture, color, shape and the different ways sheepskin could be used in an interior. We spent a lot of time trying different combinations, changing things, starting over and keeping the ideas that felt right. There was never really a plan to build a brand around it. We simply enjoyed making things and seeing what could come from the material. Over time, that process became Norkley.
We Like Things Natural
We don't expect every piece to look exactly the same.
Sheepskin has its own character. The texture, color, pile and shape can vary from one hide to another, and that's part of what we like about it.
Rather than trying to make the material uniform, we work with what is already there. The small differences are what make each piece feel like an individual piece rather than something made from a template.
Making Things Our Way
As the collection grew, so did our curiosity. We started experimenting with different materials, colors and combinations, looking for ways to create pieces that felt simple but still had something distinctive about them.
Some ideas worked. Some didn't. That's still how we approach new pieces today.
We don't want to make products simply because they fit a collection or a trend. If we wouldn't want to have it in our own space, there isn't much point in making it.
Today
Today, Norkley is a collection of rugs, cushions, throws and other pieces made to bring natural texture into a space.
We keep exploring new materials, combinations and ideas, while trying not to overcomplicate things.
Make something good. Let the material do some of the talking. That's pretty much it.
